Parent Engagement is a Key Element

Research shows that a child with a supportive family has a better chance of succeeding in school.  Parents, guardians, and caregivers who attend Curriculum Nights, go online to review grades, and communicate with teachers about homework demonstrate that education is valued in their homes.  C. A. Johnson High School offers families six types of activities to increase parent involvement, using the Epstein model for participation, which include:

    1. Parenting classes
    2. Communication between home and school
    3. Volunteering
    4. Helping children learn at home with assistance
    5. Decision-making
    6. Collaborating with community resources and agencies
