  • RICHLAND ONE TO PROVIDE WEEK’S WORTH OF MEALS

    FOR STUDENTS ON MONDAYS STARTING MARCH 30;

    PARENTS ASKED TO COMPLETE ONLINE FORM

    While schools are closed, Richland One is providing “grab-and-go” breakfasts and lunches for students on weekdays at designated locations. Starting March 30, families will receive a week’s worth of meals on Mondays.

    “The change will reduce the number of trips families have to make to the pick-up locations for meals. The meals will be picked up once a week for the entire week,” said Richland One Nutrition Services Director Tracy Dixon.

    Along with offering curbside meal pick-ups, the district also has been making bus deliveries to a limited number of sites. With the new meal distribution process, bus deliveries will end after Friday, March 27, Dixon said. Richland One is working with community partners to provide home deliveries to parents who are unable to pick up meals for their children from one of the 10 sites.

    To help the Nutrition Services staff know how many meals to prepare, Richland One parents are asked to complete an online form. Parents can access the form directly at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R1Meals or via the district’s website (www.richlandone.org). Parents will receive a follow-up email after they complete the form.

    All children 18 and under are eligible to receive the free meals. Parents can drive to any of the locations, remain in their vehicles and staff will distribute the meals curbside. The pick-up hours will be 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Mondays. Children must be present to receive the meals.

    Dear Meadowfield families,

    I hope this letter finds you well.  The district is currently working with Lexia to obtain licenses for every child at Meadowfield.  Currently all Prek-1st grade students have licenses, and selected 2nd-5th.

     Lexia® Core5® Reading is a fun, computer-based program that helps students improve their literacy skills. The activities in Core5 support and build on your child’s classroom curriculum and focus on developing reading skills in six areas: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

    Here is how you can access Lexia from home:

    1. To use on a computer, go to www.lexiacore5.com.
    2. To use on an iPad, download the free Lexia Core5 Reading app from the App Store. (iPad support is limited to these devices: iPad 4+, iPad Mini 3+, iPad Air+, and iPad Pro.)
    3. The first time your child uses Core5, you may need to enter your teacher's email. Your child can then log in with the username and password used at school.  (If you need this information feel free to contact your teacher or me.)

    Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about anything.  My e-mail is apryl.whitman@richlandone.org

    GOVERNOR ORDERS ALL SCHOOLS TO CLOSE THROUGH MARCH 31;

    RICHLAND ONE TO IMPLEMENT E-LEARNING PLAN, PROVIDE FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS

    Governor Henry McMaster has ordered all South Carolina public schools to close through the end of March to help mitigate and control the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

    Afterschool programs, child care programs, athletics practices and games, school events, field trips and all other activities are canceled until further notice.

    Teachers and all other district employees should report to work Monday, March 16 as normal. Students and parents may pick up medications and any other personal items students may need from 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday.

    The district’s eLearning plan will be implemented to allow students to do assignments virtually while they are at home while schools are closed. Learning packets also will be distributed to students as part of the plan, which was approved by the S.C. Department of Education. Principals and teachers will provide details to students and parents.

    Richland One will provide free breakfast and lunch for students while schools are closed, starting Monday, March 16. Breakfast will be available for pick-up from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and lunch will be available for pick-up from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the following sites: Carver-Lyon, Rosewood and Webber elementary schools; Southeast and St. Andrews middle schools; and Eau Claire, Lower Richland and A.C. Flora high schools.

    “This is an unprecedented time for the U.S. and other countries around the globe, requiring changes to our daily lives that we would not have imagined, but we can get through this together,” said Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon. “As a Richland One family, we’ve weathered many storms before – literally and figuratively – such as the historic flood of 2015. That’s what we mean when we say we are ‘Richland One Strong.’”

    Identified essential staff may be needed to report to work while schools and offices are closed. Additional information will be forthcoming.

    Information, updates and resources are posted on the district’s website at www.richlandone.org/COVID19.
