What programs are available for 3-year-olds?
If your child will be three (3) on or before September 1, you can apply for the 3K program. Traditional 3K is offered at the schools listed below. This is a free, full-day program with certified teachers. Space is extremely limited, and it is a needs-based program, so don't wait to apply! Students zoned for the 3K schools will have priority, but each one will accept students from surrounding areas as space allows.
3K Schools: Lewis Greenview, Bradley, Hyatt Park, Hopkins, Sandel, Gadsden, and Webber
Montessori Services also offers 3K programs. Contact them for more details. For additional programs for children ages birth to five (5), contact ThriveRichland. -
What programs are available for 4-year-olds?
If your child will be four (4) on or before September 1, you can enroll them in 4K, which is offered through your zoned school. Please complete the registration process. Only Rosewood and Satchel Ford do not have 4K programs, but students zoned for those schools may attend AC Moore or Bradley, respectively. A shuttle bus is provided.
Montessori Services and Language Immersion also offer 4K magnet programs. Please contact those departments to apply. For additional programs for children ages birth to five (5), contact ThriveRichland.

What/when are the parent information sessions?
The parent information sessions are designed to give you all the information needed to prepare you for registering for the upcoming school year. .

What happens after I complete registration?
The Office of School Readiness and Prekindergarten programs will review your application and documents and contact you if additional items are needed. After all registration steps are complete, we will contact you to schedule the DIAL-4 screening. If your child is accepted, you will receive an acceptance letter via email. Take your acceptance letter and additional documents to your child's placement school to complete registration.

When will I know if my child is accepted to the Pre-K program?
We strive to process all applications as quickly as possible. Make sure you have submitted all required documents and online applications for the best response time. After all registration steps are complete, we will contact you to schedule the DIAL-4 screening. After the screening, you will be contacted via email for notification of acceptance or if your child is placed on a waiting list.

Who gets into the Pre-K program?
The children who are determined to be most in need of additional services by the state guidelines, the Dial-4 screening, and the parent questionnaire have priority, but others may be accepted as space allows.

Why do you need my income information?
Pre-K is optional and is a need-based program. We are required by state guidelines to collect income information from parents/guardians.

What happens if my child is not accepted?
Children who are not initially accepted into the Pre-K program are placed on a waitlist. Parents of students on a waitlist will be contacted as space becomes available, but we cannot guarantee placement.

Are there after-school programs for Pre-K students?
Each school has different after-school options. Please contact your school for more details.

Can my child test up or skip Pre-K and go straight to Kindergarten?
If your child will be four years old as of September 1, 2024, he/she cannot attend Kindergarten this upcoming school year. There is no option to test up at the Pre-K level.
