Greetings Heyward Gibbes Eagle Family:
My name is Cedrick Tidwell, and I am the principal of Heyward Gibbes Middle School. I am truly blessed and honored to have the privilege to continue my work with the students, families, professional staff, and community members of the Eau Claire Community in the North Main Corridor of Columbia of Richland School District One. The 2022- 2023 school year marks the beginning of my twenty-fourth year in education. I am coming to Gibbes Middle School from Eau Claire High School, where I served as an Assistant Principal for three years. Prior to my time at ECHS, I spent eighteen years in Chester County where I served as a Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal. I am excited about the opportunity to become part of this elite “Eagle Family” as we work to increase student achievement, promote a sense of school and community pride, and prepare our students to become college and career-ready graduates.
At HGMS, we believe that collaboration is essential for the success of our students. It is our desire for faculty and staff members to partner with our parents and community members to map out a success plan that will ensure the progress of each student. Communication and teamwork are critical in reaching our school’s goals. Please know that we have an open door policy, and parents/ guardians are encouraged to share ideas or concerns with administrators and staff members as the need arises. As Principal, my vision is for all stakeholders to work together like one family—because our achievement is inextricably tied to the success of each student entrusted to us!
I anticipate a fabulous school year—in spite of the challenges that have been presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Please know that the leadership of Richland School District has devoted countless hours and a significant amount of resources in planning and preparing a safe opening of school— while ensuring that our facilities, transportation, and other areas are prepared to safely accommodate our students without compromising teaching and learning. Please continue to check back regularly as we will provide you with pertinent information about school opening as it becomes available. I look forward to working with each of you this year. Heyward Gibbes Middle is our school, and we must do all we can to promote its success. At Heyward Gibbes Middle School will continue to be the place where we are “EAGLES SOARING WITH PRIDE AND SUCCESS!”
