Dear Kangaroo Families,
Welcome to the 2017 – 2018 school year! We are excited to embark on an educational adventure with our kangaroos. This year we are continuing to challenge our students to dream big.
Take a Look Around – Research confirms learning environment plays a key role in the success of students. As you may notice, we are actively changing the look and feel of each classroom to include the following: Active Seating, access to 21st Century Technology in all classrooms, leveled classroom libraries, and designated learning spaces (whole group, small group). In addition to changing classroom spaces, we have spent time focusing on community areas throughout the campus. We recently renovated our Media Center and Learning Garden. If you have ideas of suggestions, please do not hesitate to stop by and share.
Volunteers – We need your support. Throughout the school year we will continue to engage students in various on and off site learning opportunities. If you are available to chaperone a field trip or assist in the classroom, we encourage you to fill out the volunteer application. Without an application on file, you will be unable to consistently partner with the school.
AVID – Fourth and Fifth Graders will join many schools across the globe to implement AVID Elementary. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. This rigorous system engages students in WICOR Strategies across the curriculum for lasting college and career readiness. In future years we will officially add grade levels with a goal of school wide implementation by the start of the 2019 school year.
Please take a moment to review the pages of the South Kilbourne Student handbook with your learner. It contains key information about our school. Additional documents that should be reviewed include our Title I Compact, Richland One Student Code of Conduct, and Technology documents. Grade levels may also have specific documents for your review. If there are any questions feel free to ask any member of the Kangaroo Faculty and Staff.
