Barbering and Cosmetology Programs for 2020-2021
Attention Parents, High School Principals, High School Counselors:
The purpose of this document is to inform you about important updates for the Barbering and Cosmetology programs.
As you know, Richland One students are scheduled to start school on Monday, August 31, 2020. Students who will participate in the Phase-in Model will start school virtually. However, students who are enrolled in Heyward’s Barbering and Cosmetology programs will be required to attend Heyward “in person” on Monday through Friday starting August 31, 2020 and continuing through each level of the Phase-in Model. The reason for this decision is that students need face-to-face, hands-on instruction in order to receive hours through the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulations (LLR). Heyward will follow a COVID-19 plan that meets the requirements as outlined by SC DHEC and the CDC.
The district will provide transportation to Heyward in the morning from the student’s home and will pick up students from Heyward in the afternoon and return them to their home. A bus schedule will be provided as soon as possible. Parents who do not want to utilize district transportation may drop students off and pick them up from Heyward according to the schedule below. Also, students may drive to Heyward with permission from their parents. This requires an application that is signed by the student and parent.
During Phase 1 of the instructional model (eLearning), students will be able to remain at Heyward to work on their academic/core classes. Students who use district transportation will be required to stay at Heyward all day because the buses will only run in the morning (to drop off students) and in the afternoon (to pick up students).
Richland One Student Nutrition Services will provide breakfast and lunch for students who stay at Heyward all day. Students who stay at Heyward all day will not be able to leave campus for lunch. Students will be able to purchase snacks at designated times.
The schedule will be as follows:
8:05—Start arriving to Heyward
8:35—Tardy bell rings for morning classes
11:10—12:30—Lunch; Intervention Services; Academic Counseling
12:35—Tardy bell rings for afternoon classes
Parents: Please complete the survey on the link below by August 25.
