Projector and SMARTBoard General Rules

1. The district standard electronic whiteboard is a SMARTBoard. Promethean boards require an exception to policy and will only be considered for schools that currently have a majority of Promethean boards.

2. Due to the complimentary instructional value, projectors and SMARTBoards should be purchased in pairs when at all possible. Separate purchases may be approved when it meets the instructional and fiscal needs of the school.

3. In order to reduce the possibility of damaging projectors, they should be ceiling mounted when possible. Portable projector purchases will be considered as an exception to policy only when they meet an instructional need or are limited by physical design features.  The same policy applies to electronic whiteboards.  Wall mounting is recommended to ensure safety of the units and extend their functionality.  Exceptions will be entertained based on the school’s implementation plan.

4. Where possible, SMARTBoards should not be mounted over existing dry erase boards. The dry erase boards should be moved to another location in the room or removed and the SMARTBoard mounted directly on the wall.
