7) INSTRUCTIONAL
ACTIVITIES:
1.
Begin this activity when there are 20 days left
before Christmas,
on December 5. Write a descending
number line across the board, beginning with the
number 20. (This
number line will remain up for the next twenty
days).
2. Ask
students if they know what day Christmas is always
on. On
a
large classroom calendar, mark December 25 with a
Christmas paper cut-out.
Demonstrate how you counted and determined
which day was December 25. Have students
count the twenty days until Christmas with you.
Explain to students about the descending number
line and what it means when the number 1 is
crossed out.
3. Introduce
students to the Christmas Countdown web site.
Show
them how to recognize where the number of days
left until Christmas is located on the web page.
Every day, have each student take a turn
going to the Christmas Countdown web site and
state the number of days left until Christmas.
Have them check this number with your
Christmas Countdown number line on the board.
4.
Begin to count the days until Christmas on the
class calendar, beginning with that day's date.
5.
At the end of each school day, cross out the
number on the descending
number line on the board.
6.Continue
this procedure until school is out for the
holidays.
