chart paper
The eency weency spider went up the
waterspout.
Along came the rain and washed the
spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all
the rain.
The eency weency spider went up the
spout again.
Glove
for each child (ask to bring from home). Extras
can be purchased at thrift stores, etc.
One
large black pompom for each child.

will be able to make their spider puppets go up
and down according to the word prompts in the
poem.

Instructional Activities:
On
the day before the activity is to be used, the
teacher will glue a large black pompom on the top
of a glove for each child.
The
teacher will use the chart and teach the poem to
the students. The teacher will point out the
words, "up" and "down", and
discuss with the students. The teacher will then
read the poem aloud, and using his/her puppet,
demonstrate the concepts of "up" and
"down". The teacher will give each
student a puppet and let them act out the poem as
a group and individually. The teacher will then
point out and discuss the location of objects in
the classroom that are "up" and
"down".
