How to Enroll Your Child

Children must be five on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten, and six on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade. By state law, students must be in school from age five to 17.

Parents who choose not to send their child to a public or private kindergarten must sign a waiver to that effect. Waiver forms are available at your local elementary school.

To register your child for any grade, take his/her Social Security card, birth certificate, South Carolina health certificate and two proofs of residence to the school to which you are zoned. If your child is transferring from another school district, also take his/her latest report card.
