CHECK LIST FOR WHEN TO REFER FOR SOCIAL WORK SERVICES

  • Signs of neglect are present i.e. a child or their clothing is obviously dirty and unkempt, the child arrives at school hungry
  • No parental response to communications sent home from the school i.e. forms, academic plans, reports cards, etc.
  • Excessive tardiness
  • Absenteeism in violation of the School Attendance and Truancy Policy
  • Fighting or behavioral problems with peers that interfere with learning
  • Student who exhibit suicidal behavior
  • Pregnant Students
  • Students whose families are experiencing a crisis (homelessness, domestic violence, fire, death)
  • Language or behavior with sexual overtones i.e. inappropriate touching other students and staff and masturbation
  • Destructive or violent outburst toward self, others and school property
  • Any elementary student who has been suspended more than once
  • Students who require social or mental health services beyond the scope of what the school district provides
