In 1987, a group of committed civic and business leaders came together to form Partners in Education, Richland County School District One's educational foundation. Since then, the foundation has been instrumental in several key initiatives, including the establishment of South Carolina's only Challenger Learning Center in Richland One.The primary purpose of Partners in Education is to support and enhance the quality of education in Richland One and to help advance the district’s mission.

Priority projects for Partners in Education include:

Awarding student scholarships, including The Dr. John R. Stevenson Music Scholarship. The scholarship, named for former Richland One Superintendent Dr. John R. Stevenson, is awarded annually to a Richland One high-school senior who plans to pursue post-secondary study in music.
Sponsoring an annual Academic All-Stars Recognition Banquet to honor high school seniors from throughout the district who have achieved academic excellence. To qualify, graduating seniors must have at least a 3.5 GPA, rank in the top 10 percent of their class and have earned no grade lower than a "C" in any subject completed for high-school credit. Students who meet the High School Scholars criteria automatically qualify for recognition as Academic All-Stars. More than 900 outstanding Richland One students have been recognized through the program since its inception during the 2001-2002 school year.
Funding Classroom Innovation Grants to allow teachers to try innovative projects that will enhance traditional instructional activities. The $500 grants are awarded twice a year. All Richland One teachers are eligible to apply.
Sponsoring the Richland One Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Gala. The Richland One Hall of Fame was created to recognize distinguished Richland One graduates who have made significant contributions to the district, their communities, their professions and society as a whole.
