Parenting Think Tank
Keenan High School will be hosting a Parenting Think Tank on Tuesday, November 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the Keenan Theater. Parents of students from Keenan, Sanders Middle, Alcorn Middle and Greenview Elementary are invited to this forum to discuss ideas to strengthen the relationship between parents and the schools. The Think Tank will be hosted by radio personality Cynthia Hardy. A panel of consultants and two school board commissioners will be attending the event.
Walt Disney World Career Start
Representatives from Disney World will be at Heyward Career and Technology Center on Tuesday, November 14 at 6 p.m. to meet with Richland One graduates and students who may be interested in working for the company. The meeting will be held in Heyward’s Conference Center. Various positions are available at Disneyland resort theme parks and hotels. Candidates can also apply and get more information on-line at www.disneycareerstart.com .
Board of School Commissioners
Richland One’s Board of School Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, November 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration Building, 1616 Richland Street. Board meeting agendas are posted online at www.richlandone.org ; click on the School Board link.
Information Café for Parents
C. A. Johnson Preparatory Academy will host an Information Café’ for Parents on Wednesday, November 15, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium and media center. The Information Café is a parent and student workshop designed to help students plan for their future and to discuss the college application process. Parents will also receive new information on checking their child’s grades through the internet.
Teacher for a Day: American Education Week Celebration
In celebration of American Education Week, students at Lewis Greenview Elementary will take over the school on Friday, November 17. That’s right. Members of the school’s student council will switch roles with the principal, secretary, and some of their classroom teachers for the entire day. Student body president Destiny Tolbert, a fifth grader, gets to call the shots as principal. Don’t be surprised if her colleague, 10-year old Maya Dilligard answers the school phone. Fifth-graders Jasmine Myers and Chelsea Perry will also handle various responsibilities in the front office and each class will have at least one or two students “teach” that day. School officials say all the children take their “jobs” very seriously and learn valuable leadership skills. Lewis-Greenview is located at 726 Easter Street.
Crayton Middle School Dedication
Richland One will dedicate the new Crayton Middle School during a special ceremony at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 19 at the school, located at 5000 Clemson Avenue. The program will include student performances, a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the school.
