PUBLIC INVITED TO GANG AWARENESS PROGRAM
On Tuesday, November 13, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Gang Unit will present "Gangs in Our Community" at Heyward Career and Technology Conference Center, 3560 Lynhaven Drive. The presentation will provide current information on gangs in the Midlands and will be followed with a question and answer period. Anyone interested in attending should call 231-7504 to reserve a seat.

Richland One, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Columbia, and Communities In Schools of the Midlands are working together to host the program. It’s a component of their joint project called Someone to Count On, which is seeking 50 new volunteers (by March 2008) to assist children in Richland and Lexington counties as mentors, lunch buddies and tutors.

Directions to Heyward Career and Technology Center: Take Two Notch Road to Pine Belt Road. Lynhaven is off of Pine Belt Road near the old Keenan High School.


COLUMBIA HIGH SCHOOL HOSTS PARENT UNIVERSITY NIGHT
Columbia High School invites the community to attend Parent University Night on Tuesday, November 13 from 5:45 -8:30 p.m. There’s something for everyone including free health screenings, credit counseling and retirement planning. Information about adult education, GEDs and jobs also will be available. Parents who need more information should contact Sandra Carroll at 731-8936.


RICHLAND ONE BOARD OF SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS TO MEET
The next scheduled meeting of the Richland One Board of School Commissioners will be held Tuesday, November 13 at 7 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration Building, 1616 Richland Street. Meeting agendas are posted on the district’s Web site at www.richlandone.org; click on the School Board link.


SCHOOLS IN EAU CLAIRE NEIGHBORHOOD TO HOLD PARENT-COMMUNITY APPRECIATION BASH
While weekend grocery shopping, parents and other citizens in the Eau Claire community will have the opportunity to learn more about programs at Gibbes Middle School, Alcorn Middle School and Eau Claire High School. On Friday, November 16, a Parent-Community Appreciation Bash will be held at the Piggly Wiggly on North Main Street from 4-7 p.m. Along with information about the schools and various community services, participants can enter drawings and possibly win some great door prizes. Parents who need more details should contact James Bryant at 735-3439.


LOGAN ELEMENTARY INVITES COMMUNITY TO FALL CARNIVAL
Logan Elementary invites the community to attend its Fall Carnival on Saturday, November 17 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. The morning of fun activities includes games, prizes and plenty of pizza and hot dogs.
