2006 Richland One Hall of Fame Gala
Five outstanding Richland One graduates will be inducted into the Richland One Hall of Fame at the 2006 Gala which will be held on Thursday, November 2 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. The reception will begin at 6 p.m., and the ceremony starts at 7. Attire is black-tie optional. Entertainment will be provided by Bill Pinkney and The Original Drifters. Tickets are $40 for district employees and $75 for the general public. Partners In Education, the district’s educational foundation, sponsors the annual gala, which is its major fund-raiser. Proceeds help fund programs for Richland One students and employees. For tickets or more information about the gala, contact Nathalie Gregg at 318-3005.

The five district alumni who will be honored during the November 2 gala are:

The late Ulysses R. Barber, 1933 Booker T. Washington High School graduate – a longtime district educator
Rear Admiral (Ret.) Reubin B. Bookert, 1968 C.A. Johnson High School graduate – who made history as one of only 28 African-American rear admirals in the 229-year history of the U.S. Navy
George E. Glymph, 1961 Booker T. Washington High graduate - former Eau Claire High boys basketball coach and currently director of pro player development and assistant coach with the New York Knicks
Dr. Linda L. Kershaw, 1967 C.A. Johnson High graduate - conductor of the Benedict College Concert Choir and immediate past chair of Benedict’s Department of Fine Arts
The late H.B. Rhame Jr., 1946 Dreher High graduate - a longtime district educator

Hopkins Middle School Rededication Ceremony
Richland One will hold a rededication ceremony for Hopkins Middle School at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 5 at the school, which is located at 1601 Clarkson Road in Hopkins. The community is invited to attend. Hopkins Middle underwent major facility renovations thanks to voters who approved a bond issue in 2002.

Hopkins is the first school completed under the bond issue. It welcomed students into new classroom wings in January 2006.
