W.A. PERRY REDEDICATION CEREMONY
The rededication ceremony for W.A. Perry Middle School will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 28 in the school’s auditorium. Perry recently underwent major renovations through the district’s Schools for the 21st Century bond construction program. You can look forward to an afternoon program that includes student performances, alumni presentations and tours of the school. W.A. Perry is located at 2600 Barhamville Road.
KEENAN ANNEXATION MEETING
Richland One is inviting the community to learn more about plans to have the property on which the new Keenan High School is built rezoned and annexed into the municipal boundaries of the City of Columbia. The annexation meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 30 in the lecture hall of the new Keenan High School, 361 Pisgah Church Road.
Rezoning and annexing Keenan into the City of Columbia will not involve changing school attendance lines. Keenan currently sits within the unincorporated boundaries of Richland County.
GUEST CIRCUS RINGMASTER
He won’t be up on the high wire or swinging from a trapeze, but Richland One Superintendent Dr. Allen Coles will step into the center ring at the UniverSoul Circus next week.
The UniverSoul Circus will be in Columbia from October 31-November 4 at the Capital City Baseball Stadium on Assembly Street, near the South Carolina State Fairgrounds.
The traveling circus, which features black performers from around the world, has designated Thursday, November 1 as Richland One Day. Several Richland One students will be in attendance at the 10:30 a.m. show. Dr. Coles has been invited to serve as guest ringmaster. He will address the crowd for a few minutes at 11 a.m.
READING EXPERT
Parents know that getting a child to read can be a challenge with computer savvy youngsters. Jim Trelease, one of America’s most popular and entertaining education speakers, will share tips on raising readers in a video and computer era at a special presentation on Monday, October 29. Trelease’s lecture will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. at Main Street Methodist Church, 1830 Main Street. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Richland County First Steps.
