BMW DONATION

The honors (and goodies!) keep rolling in for Heyward Career & Technology Center’s automotive technology program.

In April, Heyward’s program became the only high-school automotive technology program in the Midlands to receive certification by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation. In August, the program was featured along with Dick Dyer Toyota in Time magazine. And last week, the program received national certification from Automotive Youth Educational Systems, the highest certification for a school in the automotive technology field.

The excitement will continue at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, when BMW donates a vehicle to the program. Heyward Career & Technology Center is located at 3560 Lynhaven Drive, off Pine Belt Road near Keenan High.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

The Richland One Board of School Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 26 at C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy, 2219 Barhamville Road. Board meeting agendas are posted online at www.richlandone.org.

During the meeting, the middle-school students who traveled to Ghana, West Africa this summer as part of the Richland One Student Experience to Africa (ROSETA) program will make a presentation to the Board on their journey.

‘READING ROCKS ON THE RADIO’

The joy of reading will be cause for celebration at 'Reading Rocks on the Radio' from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday, September 30 at W.J. Keenan High School, 3455 Pine Belt Road.

Local radio personalities and USC mascot Cocky will be there and so will guest authors Alice Faye Duncan and Joyce Hansen. And there’ll be storytelling, a literacy parade, puppet shows, vintage and classic cars, book distributions, Parents’ Corner and much, much more.

The event is sponsored by Richland One’s Instructional Technology Services Department and Title I Services, Reading Is Fundamental and the S.C. Center for Children’s Books & Literacy.
