Newly Renovated St. Andrews Middle School to be Rededicated
The Richland One Board of School Commissioners and the Administration will hold a rededication ceremony for St. Andrews Middle School at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 16 at the school, which is located at 1231 Bluefield Road. St. Andrews underwent major renovations as part of the district's Schools for the 21st Century bond construction program. The rededication program will include student entertainment, special guest speakers, tours and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Former Columbia Weatherman-turned-Author to Visit Forest Heights
Former WIS-TV weatherman-turned-children’s book author Ken Aucoin will visit Forest Heights Elementary on Tuesday, September 18 from 8:50 - 9:45 a.m. to talk about his new book Jake and Friends Encounter Hurricane Katrina. Aucoin will read portions of his new book to students, share his weather-related experiences and autograph copies of the book. Forest Heights is located at 2500 Blue Ridge Terrace.
South Carolina Legislators to Visit Logan Elementary on Midlands School Bus Tour
On Wednesday, September 19 about 30 South Carolina legislators will visit three local schools as part of a tour sponsored by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. At 11:50 a.m., legislators are scheduled to visit Logan Elementary, 815 Elmwood Avenue. Lawmakers will grab a quick lunch with Logan students and then enjoy a special performance by the youngsters. The legislators’ travel itinerary also includes a visit to Forest Lake Elementary in Richland Two at 10:15 a.m. and Irmo Elementary in Richland/Lexington District Five at 2:40 p.m.
Brockman Elementary Hosts International Day of Peace
On Friday, September 21, Brockman Elementary students will celebrate the International Day of Peace with poetry, songs and a pledge to pursue peace and tolerance. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. The Montessori school also will present the Peace Dove award to a special peacekeeper nominated by Brockman staff. The event coincides with the United Nations annual observance of a Day of Peace. Brockman is located at 2245 Montclair Drive.
