Romanian Students to Visit Richland One School
Eight Romanian high school students and seven of their teachers will be visiting A.C. Flora High School on Monday, August 28 to thank Flora students for collecting hundreds of books for Romanian schools last year. After a tour of Flora and visits to classes, the 15 Romanians will share lunch with Flora students including those who assisted with the book drive. The Romanians week-long visit to Columbia is being done in conjunction with the international baccalaureate program at Flora and international business programs at USC.

Lunch (held around noon) may be the best opportunity for members of the media to interview students or teachers.

DonorsChoose Program Kicks off 2006-2007 SC Campaign at Brockman Elementary
DonorsChoose, a national program that provides schools with needed resources through donations from the public, will kick off its campaign in South Carolina at Brockman Elementary on Wednesday, August 30 at 9:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Brockman is located at 2245 Montclair Drive.

DonorsChoose allows teachers to submit lists of needed items to their web site. Donors can then choose which projects they’d like to assist financially. Since it began last year, the organization has raised over $200,000 for more than 19,000 South Carolina students. In honor of its one-year anniversary, the organization’s kickoff will include a birthday celebration.
