Richland One Board of School Commissioners Meeting
Richland One’s Board of School Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Horrell Hill Elementary, 517 Horrell Hill Road in Hopkins. Board meeting agendas are posted online at www.richlandone.org ; click on the School Board link.

During the school board meeting, Palmetto Serves (a state program that honors volunteers who provide exemplary service to youth and families) will recognize International Paper as an outstanding corporate volunteer. Over the past 15 years, International Paper has provided volunteers, tens of thousands of dollars and support to Webber Elementary School.


Lower Richland High School Celebrates Diamond Day
On Saturday, August 26 Lower Richland High School will be hosting Diamond Day Celebration, a festival showcasing students’ talents and all the advantages the school has to offer the community. Families can enjoy a day filled with entertainment, delicious food, a science fair, art exhibits and tours of the newly renovated high school. The fun starts at noon and goes until 5:00 p.m. The school is located at 2615 Lower Richland Boulevard.

Funds raised at the event will be used to provide college scholarships, educational summer camps and transportation to after-school tutorial programs.


Forest Heights Students Invited to Space Shuttle Launch
Forty Forest Heights Elementary students have been invited to the Kennedy Space Center to observe the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis on Sunday, August 27. Students leave for Florida on August 26 and will return to Columbia on Monday, August 28.

Last year Forest Heights received designation as an official NASA Explorer school, where NASA presents programs and provides opportunities to encourage students to get involved in the study of math, science and technology.
