Demolition to begin on Dreher High School
The demolition of Dreher High School is scheduled to begin Monday, June 11. SCE&G will disconnect power to the old building at 9 a.m. The demolition will begin after the disconnection is complete. As a safety precaution, members of the media who would like to videotape or photograph the demolition must first report to the construction site trailer (on the Millwood Avenue side of campus) at 9 a.m. They will be taken to the best possible locations for photos.
The original building is being demolished to make way for the construction of a new Dreher High School, which is expected to open in the fall of 2007.
Richland One Board of School Commissioners
The Richland One Board of School Commissioners holds its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration Building, 1616 Richland Street. Board meeting agendas are posted online at www.richlandone.org ; click on the School Board link.
Richland One Students to Explore Africa
Fifteen Richland One middle school students and their chaperones leave Columbia on Tuesday, June 12 to embark on the trip of a lifetime. They will spend two weeks in Africa exploring historical and cultural sites. Their adventure includes dinner in Casablanca, shopping in Morocco, touring Cape Coast Castle and walking across the 1,000-foot aerial walkway between the treetops in Kakum National Park. The group will gather at the Delta Airlines counter at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport at noon. They will take a group photo around 1:00 p.m. and then depart at 3:00 p.m. The group will return to Columbia on June 26.
Richland One Middle College Home Construction Cancelled
The Richland One Middle College has cancelled plans to build a home for a needy family this summer, but hopes to pursue the project next year.
