Johnson Cluster schools open doors to community
Five neighboring Richland One schools - Carver-Lyon Elementary, Watkins-Nance Elementary, W.A. Perry Middle School, C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy and the Challenger Learning Center - are referred to as the Johnson Cluster. The principals of these five schools are inviting the community to come out and learn more about their exciting programs, exceptional students and other accomplishments at the Johnson Cluster Showcase Extravaganza on Saturday, April 21.
Cluster activities:
8:30 - 9:30 a.m. Wellness walk - C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy, 2219 Barhamville Road (free pedometers, juice, fruit and health information)
10:00 a.m. Kick-off event
10:10 a.m. - noon Shuttle buses available for school tours
12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m. C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy - Lunch and entertainment by the W.A. Perry band, Spanish dancers, a step team and student fashion models
Car wash to benefit school mentoring programs
Need your car washed? The Concerned Black Men organization is sponsoring a car wash to raise money for the mentoring programs at Olympia Learning Center and E.E. Taylor Elementary School. The car wash will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Hard Scrabble and Clemson roads. Contact Brian Weston for more details at 231-6865.
Student photos displayed at Richland Mall
Expect to be charmed. Richland One celebrates the Week of the Young Child with a photo display of its pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students at Richland Mall’s food court, April 23-27. The display includes adorable photographs of students dressed up as doctors, police officers, and other professionals they would like to be when they grow up.
School Board to meet Tuesday
The Richland One Board of School Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 24 at Webber Elementary School, 140 Webber School Road in Eastover. Open session begins at 7 p.m. Board meeting agendas are posted online at www.richlandone.org; click on the School Board link.
Organization to hold violence prevention conference
Youth Voices of Lower Richland is inviting the community to attend its Youth and Family Violence Prevention Conference on Saturday, April 28, 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Magic Johnson Community Empowerment Center, 140 Webber School Road in Eastover. The goal of the conference is to increase awareness about teen relationships, youth violence, gangs and community resources. Lunch will be provided. Children ages 11-19 and their parents are asked to register as soon as possible by calling Parenting Partners at 744-4604.
