March 26: ROCC to Host Awards Ceremony
The Richland One Community Coalition or ROCC (pronounced "rock") will host its first awards ceremony on Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brookland Baptist Church Banquet and Conference Center, 1066 Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia. The honorable Judge Leslie Riddle will be the guest speaker.

ROCC will recognize community leaders, businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations who have been champions in leading the fight to reduce youth substance abuse and violence in Richland One. ROCC works with community organizations to develop programs and ideas to encourage youngster to steer clear of drugs and violence by making wiser decisions.


March 26-27: Keenan High School Students to Participate in Challenge Day
On March 26-27, about 160 Keenan High School juniors will be challenged to break down social and economic barriers that can lead to bullying, racism, isolation and other problems. The nationally recognized Challenge Day event is a leadership and character-building program that encourages students to "be the change" in creating a more positive environment at school. Challenge Day activities begin at 7:45 a.m. and will conclude each day at 3:30 p.m. (The Challenge Day has been featured on Oprah and other national media outlets.)
