Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat Visits Pendergrass Fairwold School
On Friday, March 16 Pendergrass Fairwold celebrates Read Across America with a special appearance by the Cat in the Hat himself and a variety of guest readers. Read Across America is a national project that focuses on the importance of reading. It’s traditionally held in March to honor beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. This year’s celebration coincides with the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Dr. Seuss classic The Cat in the Hat.

In honor of those milestones all Pendergrass Fairwold students and teachers will be dressed in appropriate Cat in the Hat attire which includes stovepipe red and white striped hats and bowties. The students made extras for visitors and parents. A medley of songs from Dr. Seuss books and films will definitely be a show-stopper that morning. There’s even a special menu that day to honor Dr. Seuss based on the titles of his ever-popular books:

o Hop on Popcorn Chicken (Hop on Pop)
o 1 Fish 2 Fish (1 Fish 2 Fish Red Fish Blue Fish)
o ABC Potatoes (ABC An Amazing Alphabet)
o Grinchy Green Beans (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)
o One Apple Up on Top (Ten Apples Up on Top)

The fun and excitement begins at 9:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Pendergrass Fairwold School is located at 5935 Token Street.

"Dancing with the Teachers" will include performances by Dreher’s dance team and teachers doing a variety of dances including hip hop, a waltz, the tango, salsa and (gasp) disco. You’ve got to see it to believe it. The dancing starts at 7 p.m. sharp in the Dreher auditorium. Admission is $5.00. Each vote cast for a couple costs one dollar. Dreher is located at 701 Adger Road.
