The Cat in the Hat to Promote Reading at Hyatt Park Elementary
The beloved Dr. Seuss character The Cat in the Hat will visit Hyatt Park Elementary on Tuesday, March 4 at 1 p.m. The National Education Association’s Cat-a-Van reading tour is bringing The Cat to Hyatt Park as part of the NEA’s annual Read Across America celebration which is designed to get kids excited about reading. Students will be sporting The Cat’s signature red and white striped stovepipe hat during his visit. Hyatt Park is located at 4200 Main Street.
Hampton University Concert Choir to Perform in Free Community Concert
The Hampton University Concert Choir will perform for the community in a free concert Wednesday, March 5 at 7 p.m. in the St. Andrews Middle School theater, 1231 Bluefield Road.
The Gullah Singers to Share Artistic Knowledge and Talents
March 6-8 the highly acclaimed Gullah Singers will share their artistic talents with Keenan High School choral students as artists-in residence. Students will learn about the Gullah culture, art, and music. The three-day event will culminate in a live performance by the Gullah Singers and the Keenan chorus on Saturday, March 8 at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium. The community is invited to attend this wonderful event. Tickets are $5. The fundraiser will help the Keenan Singers with their expenses for a field trip to New York later this year.
C.A. Johnson to Host Battle of the Drum Lines
A drum line battle will be brewing at C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the school gym. The annual battle of the bands includes drum lines from Columbia High, Lower Richland High, Eau Claire High and schools from Augusta, GA. Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
Richland One to Host Certified Teacher Job Fair
All certified teachers interested in joining one of South Carolina’s most progressive school districts are invited to attend the 2008 Richland One Certified Teacher Job Fair on Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Olympia Learning Center, 621 Bluff Road.
