Forest Heights Elementary Blasts Off at the State Museum
On Monday, February 26, Forest Heights Elementary marks its second year as a NASA Explorer School with a celebration that’s "out of this world." The SC State Museum has opened its doors to students to host the anniversary "party," which includes an appearance by the Tuskegee Airmen. After the opening ceremony, students get to test their scientific skills in a variety of workshops which include experiments involving the study of aliens, life on other planets, astronomy and sound. The celebration starts at 9:45 a.m. The State Museum is located at 301 Gervais Street.
Former NBA Player Visits CA Johnson Preparatory Academy
Former NBA player Terry Dozier will be the guest speaker at a Black History Month program at C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the school gym. C.A. Johnson is located at 2219 Barhamville Road.
"Deal or No Deal" Viewing Party for Richland One Teacher
Did Alcorn Middle School math teacher Ishmael Brown win the million-dollar top prize on the popular TV show "Deal or No Deal?" All will be revealed on his second appearance which airs Monday, February 26 at 8 p.m. on NBC. Brown plans to celebrate his national debut at a viewing party that night at 7:00 p.m. at Damon’s Grill, 900 Senate Street. Invited friends, family, and colleagues, along with restaurant patrons, will cheer Brown on as he takes his turn in the national spotlight.
Horrell Hill Invites 100 "Distinguished Men" to Read to Students
In honor of Black History Month, Horrell Hill Elementary has invited 100 distinguished men to visit their school for a morning of reading on Tuesday, February 27. Fathers, brothers, volunteers, principals, community leaders and other male school supports will have breakfast with the students in the gym at 7:45 a.m. After that program, they head to individual classes to begin reading to students until 9:30 a.m. Horrell Hill Elementary is located at 517 Horrell Hill Road in Hopkins.
Meeting of Richland One Board of School Commissioners
The Richland One Board of School Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 27, at 7:00 p.m. at Hand Middle School, 2600 Wheat Street. Board meeting agendas are posted online at www.richlandone.org ; click on the School Board link.
Arts Advantage 2007/Free community concert
On Saturday, March 3, Richland One kicks off Arts Advantage 2007, a month-long celebration of the arts, with a special gift to the community. Fort Jackson’s 282nd Army Victory Band will perform in a free public concert featuring the Lower Richland High School Chorus. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Lower Richland auditorium, 2615 Lower Richland Boulevard.
