* Spring Break
All Richland One schools and administrative
offices will be closed for Spring Break April
10 - 14. Classes resume on April 17th.
* SC’s First Lady
Kicks off Sun Safety Program
First Lady Jenny Sanford and the Cancer Research
and Prevention Foundation will team up on Monday,
April 17th to kick off a statewide effort promoting
sun safety and skin cancer prevention. Mrs.
Sanford, along with a dermatologist and representatives
from the Foundation, will hold a news conference
at 12:30 p.m. on the playground of Brennen
Elementary, 4438 Devereaux Road. In addition
to positive health benefits for South Carolina’s
citizens, the sun safety initiative could mean
cash and prizes for local students, teachers
and schools.
* Heyward Career Center and Technology Center
to Receive National Automotive Certification
On Tuesday, April 18, the Heyward Career and
Technology Center will receive national certification
in the highest training standards in the automotive
industry, making it the only high school program
in the Midlands with that distinction. At
8 a.m. representatives from the National Automotive
Technician Education Foundation (NATEF) will
present school officials with a certification
plaque. Richland One students trained in the
program will graduate with national credentials
that qualify theme for jobs in any mechanic’s
shop or dealership in the nation. Heyward is
located at 3560 Lynhaven Drive.
* Academic All-Stars Recognition Banquet
Richland One will hold its annual Academic
All-Stars Recognition Banquet on April 18,
at 6:30 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan
Convention Center. The event celebrates the
educational achievements of the district’s
most outstanding high school seniors. During
the banquet Richland One will salute 147
seniors, who have met stringent academic
requirements and rank at the top of their
class.
* Flora 5-K Walk and Run
On Saturday, April 22 the Healthy Falcons,
the student health club at A.C. Flora High
School will sponsor a 5-K walk and run for
the community. The registration fee is $10
for students and $20 for non-students. Pre-registration
is encouraged, but participants can register
the day of the event. However the registration
fee will increase by $5.00 on April 22.
