Bilingual fairy tales
A.C. Flora High School celebrates its Children’s
International Day on March 14 with a fairy
tale that will be performed simultaneously
in two languages (English and Spanish) by Flora
drama students. The bilingual production includes
songs and dances that will help expose children
to the cultures of various countries. The assembly
will be attended by students from seven Richland
One elementary schools. Two performances have
been scheduled. The first one will be held
from 9:40 - 10:15 a.m. The second performance
begins at 10:45 a.m. Both performances will
be held in the school gym. Hundreds of Flora
students, including members of the International
Baccalaureate Program and student council,
are involved in the activities.
Board of School Commissioners
Richland One's Board of School Commissioners will hold its next regularly scheduled
meeting on Tuesday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration
Building, 161 6 Richland Street. Board meeting agendas are posted online

Eau Claire Students Perform in Comic Opera
Eau Claire High School and The South Carolina
Philharmonic will present the comic opera
Orpheus in the Underworld on Tuesday, March
14 and Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 PM. The
production will be held at Cottingham Theatre
on the campus of Columbia College. Tickets
are $5.00 at the door. Directed by Eau Claire
theatre instructor, Jerry Stevenson, and
with musical direction by Eau Claire Artist-in-Residence
and SC Philharmonic conductor, Nicholas Smith,
the operetta features more than 30 Eau Claire
High School music, dance and theatre students.
* No school March 16 = 17th
Richland One schools will be closed two days
next week. Thursday, March 16th is a staff
development day and Friday, March 17th is
a general holiday for the district.
* Hyatt Park celebrates
March as Women’s
History Month
In honor of Women’s History Month, students
at Hyatt Park Elementary have invited award-winning
storyteller Willa Brigham to visit their school.
In addition to sharing original stories and
poetry, Ms. Brigham will incorporate lessons
on character and healthy living into her presentation.
She will visit Hyatt Park on March 15th from
8:30 – 9:30 a.m.
