* Career Day at Southeast Middle School
Workers, ranging from police officers to gospel
singers, will share their professional experiences
and career advice with students at Southeast
Middle School on Career Day, Monday, March
6th, from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon. Presentations
will be made by representatives from Square
D, SCE&G, UPS, the Department of Health
and Environmental Control, ETV, the University
of South Carolina and other agencies.
* 2006 Arts Festival: Mozart, Magic and the
Muses
Richland One invites the community to come
out and enjoy its 2006 Arts Festival which
will be held at the Carolina Coliseum on Wednesday,
March 8th at 7:00 p.m. A special day-time performance
will be held at 10:15 a.m. for all fifth-graders.
This celebration of the arts involves more
than 1,000 student performers showcasing their
talents in jazz, ballet, classical music, the
theater, West African drum beats and much,
much more. The Festival is presented free of
charge.
* Muffins with Mom
Students at John P. Thomas Elementary are inviting
their mothers, grandmothers, big sisters
and aunts to join them for muffins on Friday,
March 10, from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Everyone
has been encouraged to dress in pink. In
addition to muffins, moms will receive valuable
information on women’s health issues
and the first 25 guests will receive a copy
of Girls Hold Up This World, a book written
by entertainer Jada Pinkett Smith.
* Beauty with a message: Miss South Carolina
Visits A.C. Flora
Miss South Carolina, Erika Powell, will visit
A.C. Flora High School on Friday, March 10th
to talk to students about her platform issue,
Focus on the Future. Her
comments will center on the positive impact
of mentors for teens and preventing teen pregnancy.
She will speak with students in the Little
Theater from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.
