On January 7, Richland One’s Middle College will be holding an open house and tour for parents and high school students interested in applying for this innovative program, which is held on the campus of Midlands Tech. Open house begins at 7:00 p.m. in Room 131 of Richland Hall. Midlands Tech is located at 316 South Beltline Boulevard.

Community information sessions will also be held next week at Lower Richland, CA Johnson, Eau Claire, and Keenan High Schools. For more information, please contact Penny Jefferson at 738-7114.

The Richland One Board of School Commissioners will hold its first meeting of 2006 on Tuesday, January 10, at 7:00 p.m. at the Stevenson Administration Building at 1616 Richland Street. For more information, please call 231-7504.

It’s a "fun thing" at Caughman Road Elementary on January 13. More than 500 students will participate in a gym-size board game to solve math problems. Math Island pits classes against each other to solve challenging math problems and win the class flag-something on the fashion of the Quidditch games of Harry Potter fame. Jane Wyatt, Caughman Road principal, says it’s an exciting way for the kids to have fun with math. "The kids just go bonkers," says Wyatt. Math Island will be held from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
