THIS WEEK IN RICHLAND ONE
Several Richland One schools will observe International Walk to School Week (Oct. 3-7) and Walk to School Day (Wednesday, Oct. 5), including:
Forest Heights will hold its fifth Walk to School event on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Students and parents will meet at Emmanuel Church at 6:50 a.m. Eau Claire High JROTC cadets will lead the walk, which will commence at 7.
Brennen has been chosen as the Richland County school to demonstrate the importance of pedestrian safety for Walk to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The observance is sponsored by Midlands Safe Kids of Palmetto Health’s Children’s Hospital as part of a national campaign to raise awareness of the importance of safe behavior near roadways. Safety-themed class activities also are being planned.
Brennen’s parade of walkers will start from Kilbourne Park Baptist Church at 7:10 a.m., and proceed down Kilbourne Road to Brennen Road and on to the front entrance of the school. Once the walkers arrive on campus, PTO volunteers will be distributing juice to students to help them start their day.
Students, staff and parents at Brockman will stretch their legs by walking around the upper part of the school’s playground between 7:25 and 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5.
