RICHLAND
ONE TO CELEBRATE PARENTS AUG. 5 AT CAROLINA
COLISEUM
Richland School District One will emphasize
the importance of parental involvement during
its 2004 Opening School Convocation: "A
Celebration of Parents." The event will
be held Thursday, Aug. 5 at the Carolina Coliseum.
"There are many parts to the student
success equation, and parents are one of the
most important parts of that equation," said
Richland One Superintendent Dr. Ronald Epps. "We
know that when what goes on at home complements
what happens in the classroom, we see a higher
level of student achievement. Parental involvement
is very, very critical to the success of our
students."
Convocation activities will begin with an
expo from 4-5:45 p.m. District schools and
departments will have informational booths,
displays and voter registration tables set
up on the Coliseum's concourse. There also
will be musical entertainment and speakers
in the arena. The convocation program starts
at 6 p.m.
Special guest speakers will include:
Dr. Steven Sheldon of the National Network
of Partnership Schools; Harvey Alston, a nationally
known motivational speaker and author "Be
The Best" and Dr. Fred Jones, a national
education consultant and author, who will share
his "Tools for Parenting" program.
All parents, grandparents and guardians of
Richland One students are invited and encouraged
to attend. Parking will be available in the
parking lot on Park Street. The main entrance
of the Coliseum is on the Greene Street side
of the building. Concession stands will be
open with refreshments available for purchase.
