Schedule Changes for Home Construction by Richland One Middle College Students

There’s been a slight change in the construction schedule for Richland One Middle College students to build a home for a needy family. Construction will begin Monday, June 11 following a brief groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site. The time of the groundbreaking ceremony will be announced later.

Originally students planned to start construction on June 4, but that week will be used to teach students basic construction techniques and safety. The one-story, 1,000-square-foot home will be built in the parking lot of Sherwood Forest Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 4325 Wilmot Avenue. The church sits across the street from the Beltline campus of Midlands Tech, which is where the Middle College is housed.

Students hope to have the home completed by mid-August. Any individuals, businesses or organizations interested in donating building supplies, equipment or money to the project are asked to contact the Richland One Middle College at 738-7114.

Media questions should be directed to the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7510 or 231-7504.
