Challenger Learning Center Offers Students a Summer of Space Exploration and Fun

Richland One’s Challenger Learning Center is looking for students with an adventurous spirit, a love of science and a desire to have a lot of fun while learning. This summer the center will be hosting space, science and engineering camps. Students will learn about virtual flight simulation, building rockets and wind tunnels and much, much more.

Camps will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 4-14 and June 18-28. Students in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades are encouraged to apply now. The camp fee is $200 per week. Parents who would like to have a space held for their child must pay a $50 deposit prior to the start of camp. For more information contact Thelma Clavon, director of the Challenger Center, at 929-3951.

The Challenger Learning Center is an exciting, hands-on simulated space science environment where students and educators work in teams to solve real-life math, science and technology problems during a space flight simulation. The center is dedicated to the memory of the Challenger Space Shuttle crew and is modeled after NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Questions from the media should be directed to the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7510 or 231-7504.
