Richland One Seeks Community Input on Revisions to District Discipline Code

Richland One is in the process of revising its student discipline code. The district is seeking feedback from the community about the proposed changes and updates. Community input sessions are scheduled for April 17, April 24 and April 26 at various schools throughout the district.

At these sessions, proposed code revisions will be explained to the audience. Parents, students, and any interested citizens are encouraged to share their opinions and provide feedback to the district Hearing Office. Among the items that will be discussed are disciplinary actions for misbehavior at school and on district school buses; guidelines for varying degrees of punishments; a revised student dress code; and implications of the new state bullying law.

The dates and times of the community input sessions are outlined below:

Tuesday, April 17
St. Andrews Middle School Auditorium
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday, April 24
Crayton Middle School Auditorium
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 26
Lower Richland High School Auditorium
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the community input sessions, citizens can share their opinions of the proposed revisions by calling the Richland One Hearing Office at (803) 231-6926 or by sending an e-mail to Michael Harris, the district’s hearing officer, at mharris@richlandone.org. The deadline for receiving comments is Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Citizens’ comments will be shared with the Richland One Board of School Commissioners prior to final adoption of a revised discipline code.
