Schools in the CA Johnson Neighborhood Open their Doors to the Community

Five neighboring Richland One schools - Carver-Lyon Elementary, Watkins-Nance Elementary, W.A. Perry Middle School, C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy and the Challenger Learning Center - are referred to as the Johnson Cluster. They can boast of world-famous alumni such as the astronaut Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Charles Bolden and thousands of other graduates who have gone on to pursue careers, family life and other interests. The principals of these five schools are inviting the community to come out and learn more about their exciting programs, exceptional students and other accomplishments at the Johnson Cluster Showcase Extravaganza on Saturday, April 21.

Early-risers are invited to join a morning wellness walk from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. on the athletics field of the C.A. Johnson Preparatory Academy, 2219 Barhamville Road. Organizers will have free pedometers, juice, fruit and health information for participants. After the walk, a brief kick-off event will be held on the main campus at 10 a.m. From 10:10 a.m. - noon, shuttle buses will take visitors on tours of all of the schools. From 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m., visitors can enjoy a great lunch and an afternoon of entertainment by the W.A. Perry band, Spanish dancers, a step team and student fashion models.

Visitors can learn about the schools’ business partnerships, as well as services available to families. Parents can pick up information about college admissions and financial aid. Faculty and staff from all five schools will be on hand to greet visitors and answer their questions about programs and services. Displays throughout the schools will give visitors insights into the topics students are studying. Some lucky visitors will win door prizes and other gifts. There’s even a live radio remote planned by KISS 98.5 FM to add to the fun and excitement.
