CRAYTON TEACHER TO TRAVEL TO ROMANIA
Nancy Pierce Little, a sixth-grade world history teacher at Crayton Middle School, has been selected to participate in the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) Study Tour on Economic Education in Romania in March. The study tour is an activity of the Cooperative Education Exchange Program conducted by NCEE with funding from the U.S. Department of Education in coordination with the U.S. Department of State.
Little, an ELITE Teacher with the South Carolina Council on Economic Education, achieved National Board certification in early adolescence social studies/history in 2003. She is one of 12 U.S. educators selected to take part in this program. After a pre-departure program in Washington, D.C., the group will travel to Bucharest, Romania, where tour members will visit schools, observe teacher training activities, and meet with Ministry of Education officials, educational administrators and business leaders.
Through the study tour, participants will learn about the successes and challenges to delivering economic education in Romania, a country undergoing dramatic transition; inform their Romanian counterparts on how economic education is delivered in the United States; and bring the experience back home to their colleagues, students, community and family members through formal presentations and informal discussions.
"I’m looking forward to talking to my counterparts in Romania and having the opportunity to interact with their students," said Little, who will leave for Washington on March 8.
After returning from the study tour, Little will incorporate the experience into her teaching of economics, conduct workshops on transitional economies and give presentations to local civic and educational groups.
