Richland One Teacher of the Year Finalist for State Title
Richland One congratulates Crayton Middle School science teacher Ilona Sunday on her selection as one of five finalists for South Carolina's 2007-08 Teacher of the Year. Crayton Principal Susan Childs will formally announce Ms. Sunday’s selection to the school faculty at a meeting in the cafeteria at 3:45 p.m. today. You can expect lots of cheers, smiles and maybe even a few tears from very proud colleagues and friends.
Sunday, a National Board-certified teacher, has more than 16 years of teaching experience. She has developed numerous science curriculums, projects and programs that make learning an exciting hands-on adventure for her students. She has received state and national recognitions including the 1999 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, the nation’s highest award for K-12 teaching.
Richland One sends its best wishes to Ms. Sunday as a finalist for State Teacher of the Year. In March, she and the other finalists will meet with a seven-member state selection committee. The announcement of South Carolina’s 2007-08 Teacher of the Year will be made May 4 at the Teacher of the Year banquet. In addition to the opportunity to vie for the national title, South Carolina’s Teacher of the Year serves as a statewide ambassador for the teaching profession and receives a $25,000 cash award and other prizes.
