Richland One to Hold Parenting Workshop

Richland One is hosting "Back to the Basics of Parenting," a free one-day workshop for parents and students in the district’s Title I programs. The event will be held Saturday, February 24, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the ML Smith Community Development Center, 5213 Farrow Road.

Warren Bolton, an associate editor at The State newspaper, is the featured keynote speaker. Participants can look forward to sessions on parenting strategies and preparing for standardized PACT tests. Parents of children in the district’s Title I pre-kindergarten programs are also encouraged to attend. Lunch will be provided.

Families can pre-register at their child’s school. Title I is a federal program which provides extra academic help to students in need. Richland One’s Title I elementary schools are Watkins-Nance, Burton-Pack, Hyatt Park, John P. Thomas, E.E. Taylor, South Kilbourne, Gadsden and Carver-Lyon. In addition to serving these eight schools, Title I also extends the day in the district's pre kindergarten program at Bradley, Forest Heights, Mill Creek, Meadowfield, Arden, Burnside, Logan, Greenview, Caughman Road, A.C. Moore, Hopkins, Webber, Sandel, Pine Grove, Horrell Hill and Rhame Elementary Schools.

"Back to the Basics of Parenting" is jointly sponsored by the Title I Advisory Council of Richland School District One, the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church Scholarship Ministry and the Greater Farrow Road Community Development Foundation.
