Keenan High School to Sponsor Workshops for Parents and Teens
Which is tougher these days: being a teenager or being the parent of a teenager? Both groups face challenges and changes almost on a daily basis. In an effort to help its parents and teens navigate those years of transition with more confidence, Keenan High School will be offering three new programs later this month: "Active Parenting of Teens," "Smart Girls" and "Passport to Manhood."
Active Parenting of Teens, a series of free parenting sessions, will begin Thursday, February 22, at 6 p.m. in the Keenan media center. Dinner will be provided at no cost to parents as they get valuable tips and information on a variety of topics including proper supervision, active listening skills, promoting self-esteem and media influences. The sessions will be held twice a week.
Smart Girls, an image-builder program for teen girls, will meet weekly on Mondays beginning February 26 from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. Transportation and snacks will be provided to students. Weekly sessions will focus on helping girls build their self-esteem, character and leadership skills. The program strives to promote sisterhood as girls learn about different careers and life issues.
Passport to Manhood teaches young males responsibility, positive behavior and leadership skills. Sessions will be held every Monday, beginning February 26, from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. Transportation and snacks will also be available to students.
Keenan parents and students can register for the Active Parenting workshops, Smart Girls or Passport to Manhood programs by calling Keenan’s Project GOAL office at 738-7315 or 738-7316. All three programs are the joint effort of Keenan’s Parental Involvement Center, Richland County You First and the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands.
