‘Milk in Motion’ comes to Richland One school

An unlikely pair of health enthusiasts - a local beauty queen and a dancing "cow" - will team up at A.C. Moore Elementary at 9:20 a.m. Friday, February 16 to encourage students to make healthy food choices.

Miss Columbia Teen 2007 Taylor Hoverman and the Coburg Dairy "Healthy Cow" mascot will share their stories about good nutrition with hundreds of cheering students during a special assembly. Not to be outdone by the hoofing bovine, Taylor will also perform a jazz dance routine for the students. One lucky student will be presented with a new MP3 player so he or she can stay active by dancing to his or her favorite tunes.

After the assembly, Taylor and the Healthy Cow, will enjoy lunch with the students and serve them milk to drink along with their meal. The Milk in Motion project is just one event in a day focused on health issues. Immediately after lunch, students will enjoy a school health fair where they will visit booths hosted by USC athletes, dentists, nurses and other health professionals.

Organizers of the "Milk in Motion" program believe that these activities are a fun way to educate children that drinking low-fat beverages, such as milk, can build stronger bones and healthier bodies. The "Milk in Motion" project is a joint effort of the S.C. School Nutrition Association, the Southeast Dairy Association, Coburg Dairy and the Richland One Student Nutrition Services Department.

A.C. Moore Elementary School is located at 331 Etiwan Avenue. For more information, contact the Richland One Office of Communications at 231-7510 or 231-7504.
