BOARD CHAIRWOMAN ANNOUNCES SUBCOMMITTEES

Richland One school board Chairwoman Wendy Brawley has announced the appointment of three board subcommittees formed to foster better working relationships with local governmental officials on education-related issues.

"The school board, along with other governing entities, is addressing a variety of issues related to public education, from taxes to our building programs to discipline within our schools," Brawley said.

"Establishing these committees will foster greater dialogue on issues involving public education with our local legislators, County Council and City Council."

The subcommittees and their appointed members are as follows:

* Richland County Legislative Delegation - Vince Ford and Rob Tyson
* Richland County Council Jeanette McBride, Dr. Jasper Salmond
* Columbia City Council Dwayne Smiling and King B.L. Jeffcoat

Brawley will serve as a member of all three subcommittees. She has extended written invitations to the Legislative Delegation, County Council and City Council to form similar committees of their own to work with the school board.

Sen. Kay Patterson, chairman of the Legislative Delegation, has appointed Rep. Leon Howard, Rep. Chris Hart and himself to the delegation’s subcommittee.

"Hopefully, the students of Richland One will reap the benefits of our collaboration while we work to establish greater opportunities for academic achievement within our public schools," Brawley said.
