District Establishing
International Welcome Center
Because the number
of culturally and linguistically diverse
students in Richland One has increased steadily
over the last several years, the district is
establishing a center to welcome new families
to the district and to ease their transition
into the community.
Currently, our students
represent 40 countries and as many languages.
The International Welcome Center is the district's
response to ensuring that all students receive
a quality education.
The Center, which opens
next month, is located at A.C. Moore. It
presents "one-stop
shopping" for
new international families. School registrars
and database specialists will be briefed
on the proper etiquette for referring families
and students to the International Welcome
Center.
Information will be available at the
Center about the district's English for
Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.
The required documents may be completed while
children take the necessary language proficiency
tests.
At the end of this initial visit, children
will be referred to the school that best meets
their needs.
