Middle-Schoolers Participating
In Tech Camp
Richland One’s Office of Instructional
Technology Services (ITS) is offering a unique
learning experience for middle-school students
this summer. Beginning today, a two-week series
of classes will expose the students to the
latest technology resources, technology experts
in many fields and "cool" technology
tools.
The campers’ daily experiences with
a wide range of technology learning activities
will provide the ITS staff with ideas on
how they can be integrated into daily classroom
instruction. The students’ suggestions
also will provide staff with invaluable information
on how to improve the district’s overall
technology education program, the types of
hardware to select and the ways teachers
should expect students to use technology.
Sessions led by experts in medical crime investigation,
animation, Web page design, handheld devices,
wireless technology and the latest advances
in virtual and distance education highlight
the camp’s activities. The students also
will go on technology-related field trips,
including to the SCETV Newsplex and Richland
One TV studio.
The two-week camp runs from June 13-June 23
at the district’s technology center,
located on the Olympia School Campus at 621
Bluff Rd. Classes begin at 9 a.m. and end at
1 p.m. daily. For more information about the
scheduled activities, contact technology education
specialist Hetlena Johnson at 400-1683.
