Crayton Middle School Math
Teacher Wins Sliffe Award
John Rushman, math teacher at Crayton Middle
School, is South Carolina’s first recipient
of the Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished
Junior High/Middle School Mathematics Teaching,
presented by the American Mathematical Association.
The
award recognizes teachers who have contributed
substantially to the success of some of the
highest-scoring students on the American
Mathematics Contest 8. Rushman was selected
because of the outstanding performance of the
top three students at Crayton each of the past
three years.
The award is made possible by a
bequest of Ms. Sliffe, a former math teacher
in California, and has been presented to middle-school teachers since 1995.
