Richland One Welcomes Russian
Teachers
Richland One rolled
out the red carpet for five Russian teachers
visiting the district this week. The teachers
arrived in Columbia on Monday, May 1 and
were treated to a welcome dinner at 7 p.m.
at Dianne’s On Devine, 2400
Devine Street.
In addition to visiting Richland One schools,
the Russian teachers will have a chance to
have a little fun and be treated to some southern
hospitality. Trips to the SC State Museum and
Riverbanks Zoo have been planned. Although
they will have a translator, two of the Russian
teachers are fluent in English.
The visit by the Russian teachers is one of
the highlights of Deliberating in Democracy,
a new pilot project that brings American and
Russian high schools together to discuss democratic
principles. There are only six school districts
in the nation that participate in this program.
During spring break, six Richland One teachers
visited schools in Kaluga, Russia.
Members of the media interested in setting
up interviews, covering the welcome dinner
or attending other events with the Russian
teachers are asked to contact the Richland
One Office of Communications at 231-7504 or
231-7510.
