Hand Middle School Receives Kennedy Center Creative Ticket Award

Hand Middle School received the Creative Ticket-Schools of Excellence Award presented at the S.C. Alliance for Arts Education's annual conference recently.

The award designates Hand as the South Carolina nominee in the Creative Ticket- Schools of Excellence Award competition that is sponsored by the Kennedy Center. Five state-level winners will be named as national winners later this month.

To win the award, Hand had to demonstrate that:

* arts education is an essential component of the school's curriculum
* teachers use imaginative learning approaches
* parental involvement and community connections extend beyond the classroom
* arts integration provides opportunities to learn about other cultures
Hand also is an ABC (Art is Basic to the Curriculum) school through the S.C. Arts Commission.
