Richland One School Wins International Robotics Award

Richland One congratulates the Keenan "Robo" Raiders for capturing the Judges’ Award in the FIRST Robotics international competition in Atlanta April 27 -29. The robotics team went up against 344 competitors from the United States and foreign countries.

The Robo Raiders not only impressed the judges with the design of "Robbie," their robot, but also with their commitment to stimulate students’ interest in science and technology through science camps, literacy and other efforts.

During its three year existence, the Robo Raiders have competed in five regional and three international competitions, walking away with seven top awards. The team is coached by Alvin Pressley, dean of academics; Dr. Martin Cwiakala, math/engineering teacher; KaReem Beckett science/engineering teacher; Kirstin Bullington science teacher; Peggy Cwiakala, volunteer; and Carl Taylor, BellSouth volunteer.
