W.J. Keenan High Named as
Palmetto's Finest
Richland One’s W.J. Keenan High School
received the prestigious Carolina First Palmetto’s
Finest award presented by Carolina First Bank
and the South Carolina Association of School
Administrators in ceremonies held March 15
at the Columbia Convention Center. Dreher High
School was recognized as a finalist.
"This is a very competitive award, and
we’re elated over our selection," said
Dr. Steve Wilson, Keenan’s principal." The award validates the
hard work of our teachers, students, staff and the entire Keenan family."
The
S.C. Association of School Administrators (SCASA) and Carolina First Bank
present the awards each year to two elementary schools, one middle school
and one high school which offer the best in innovative, effective educational
programs. The Carolina First Palmetto's Finest Award, now in its 27th year,
is one of the most coveted and respected awards among educators.
The award selections are based on extensive evaluations by fellow educators.
The application process includes elements on student achievement, faculty
training, program goals and delivery systems, office practices and community
involvement.
Last fall, more than 40 South Carolina schools
submitted a 17-page application and received
an onsite visit by a review committee. The
16 finalists underwent a second onsite visit
before the awards committee selected the four
winning schools.
