Richland One Students To Receive
Child ID Kits
This week all Richland
One schools are scheduled to receive child
identification kits courtesy of the state’s
credit unions. The shipments are part of a
statewide initiative from the SC Credit Union
League, Inc. to provide ID kits for every student
in the state from kindergarten to 12th grade.
Students will take home the kits which include
materials and instructions that will allow
parents to fingerprint their children and collect
DNA samples.
The kits are provided at no cost to the district
or parents. They are part of a statewide effort
to protect South Carolina’s children.
Concerns about adequately identifying children
grew out of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina,
where children were separated from their families.
Statewide, more than 700,000 kits have been
purchased from the National Child Identification
Program.

One Office of Communications at 231-7510 or
